Lightning to strike twice in Phoenix?

By

One definition of the term “Phoenix” is “a person or thing regarded as uniquely remarkable in some respect”.

Which is somewhat ironic given what is going on with the Arizona Diamondbacks market price for the second season running.

Those that followed the site last year will no doubt recall the D’backs late season charge which scored us a lucrative win.

I haven’t got time to put together the statistical analysis I did last year – as much due to how quickly this price will collapse as my laziness.

Have a look at the tightness of the NL West standings as current and the usual run difference metric.

The Giants and Dodgers (who are arch rivals) have both upgraded at the trade deadline, which results in all the focus being on them.  However, marginal upgrades at this stage are way over rated and are often only worth 1-2 wins maximum.

I don’t think the D’backs are favorites for the division or anything, just to be clear.  But 8/1 is a huge price.  I’d have them at about 4/1.

Get stuck in for a few points.

BOTW: 3pts on the Arizona Diamondbacks to win the NL West @ 8/1

as the resident tractor I also like this..with chopra 6/4 to be our top scorer this year. he managed it last year, despite spending more time in rehab than training (turns out he likes a flutter too!)

Gylfi to score 7 premier league goals at 5/6..he got 7 in half a season at swansea but I suppose it depends on whether modric stays and where he comes vs rafa in the pecking order!?

With the Giants to play the Dodgers 6 times before the end of the season and being only 4 games behind, does 4.6 for the Dodgers to win the AL West represent good value? Giants down to 1.25 to win the ALW which seems incredibly low given how close the two teams are?

I reckon the Giants have they league pretty much sown up. Checking out the latest MLB odds, the best bet is to take Stan James’s very generous odds on the Chicago White socks to win their division:

1.83 when everyone else is around 1.44. Doubt this will stay around for long.
