Quick and dirty fun baseball tips for 2011

Posted by: | Comments (2)

OK.. well most of the specials markets will close at 6:05 sadly so I will pop a few bets up and give you some chat on them later to put the mind at ease.

In the season specials I have backed:

  • Matt Kemp over 23.5 HR’s (Will HIll)
  • Alex Rodriguez over 29.5 HR’s (888/BSQ)
  • Clayton Kershaw over 198.5 strikeouts (Will Hill)

all at 5/6.

I also think there is some good money to be made with a split stakes on Roy Halladay or Tim Lincecum to win the NL Cy Young award winner (pitcher of the year). They are 7/2 and 9/2 respectively.

That equates to an implied 40% chance one of them wins.  I think it is north of 60% chance that one of them wins the award.

Well worth a couple of points on each to get a balanced position.

Finally, a split stakes position over the home run leader will:

a) Providing 6 months of great excitement; and should

b) yield a nice return in October.

I have split 10 points over five candidates as follows, all with Boylesports:

  • Albert Pujols – 1.8 pts e/w
  • Adam Dunn – 1.1 pts e/w
  • Ryan Howard – 1.2 pts e/w
  • Miguel Cabrera – 0.5 pts e/w
  • Alex Rodriguez – 0.4 pts e/w

If any of them win you are looking at a nice healthy profit, and then a second top four placing will boost the coffers even further…

This is my favourite bet of the season this one… on both the “fun” and “value for money” basis!

Cheers

Big Boys Rounders

Posted by: | Comments (3)

The MLB season kicks off again at 1805 UK Army time…

Anyone care for a season long bets or two?

I haven’t had time to put together my usual season previews sadly :-(

But if anyone is super keen for something to keep them interested for the next six months then shout and I can pop up a few tips with minimal rationale…

It’s a great fun sport to follow and bet on given that their are games EVERY single day.

Cheers

Time for a change? I doubt it.

Afternoon all.

I hope we are all looking forward to the weekend’s football festivities.

I am aware I have been a bit quiet so far in March in comparison to the last few months, but I hope you will agree that I am back with a cracker today.

I have two bets for you – one to pay for your weekend’s beer and one to fund some new swimming shorts for the summer season come May.

The managerial merry-go-round

First up, the long term position.

William Hill and Victor Chandler are both offering interesting twists on “The next Premier League Manager to Leave” market at the moment, and I think they are potentially a nice little earner.

Have a look for yourself here before you carry on reading this piece and decide what you would do with your Granny’s weekly pension…

Northern Monkeys

Or should that be Northerners vs Monkeys?!

I jest, I jest.

Morning all.

I hope we have all had a good week.

I am away again this weekend so another analysis-light week here at BOTW I am afraid.

I know I did spoil you all a little over the winter months and I have since been a bit quiet over the last three weeks, but I promise I’ll be back with some meaty stuff soon.

Hopefully I’ll be able to pick a winner again for you this week, as I did last week with QPR.

Let’s hope all this excitement about point deductions dies down soon. That would be a really hard pill to swallow for me, particularly with the loss on Andy Carroll being Newcastle top goalscorer already in the books on an almost unforseeable development.

As I said, I’m away again this weekend – in sunny Dorset. Shame it is March, eh?!

I have actually taken my mother to visit monkey world. Although not strictly gambling research, I am sure I can draw some similarities between the interaction of a group or bored primates trapped in a pen with the sports betting markets somehow!

On another note you may be wondering if WordPress is ever going to let you read these words of wisdom. Ha, well I have well and truly out-thunk Wordpress this week.

I guaranteed that this post would get to the masses this week by combining the powers of a number of technological devices.

I typed this piece on the BlackBerry, and then emailed it to my iPhone to ensure it was saved. I then subsequently pasted it into the shitty Wordpress app to post online!

The clearest evidence yet that I am a modern day genius.

Anyway, enough rambling. Back to the betting. I am aware that is all you money grabbing whores use me for anyway!!

I have one bet only for today, but it is a good one.

Burnley have been on a tear since Eddie Howe took over and they are now on the verge of the playoff places.

They are 1.91 to beat BOTW favourites Millwall at Turf Moor today, and that is far to big for me.

Millwall have been up and down of late, but I think they are clearly established as a strong mid table team. However their hopes of the playoffs have pretty much gone, and I expect their away performances to tail off a little towards seasons end.

On the other hand, the Clarets’ season really is only just beginning.  Having done the hard work to drag themselves back in contention, they can’t afford to take their foot off the gas now.

I expect them to be very focussed and for EH to have drilled into his boys just how big this game is in particular.

They score goals for fun at home and I think they have two in them today and as such should have more than enough to crack an undoubted resolute
Millwall side.

Jacketts men are tough to beat, but at the end of the day, if they weren’t then you wouldn’t get almost evens on the hottest team in the league to win a home game!

I was originally going 2pts on this one, but the more I think about it the more I like it.

So it is 3pts on the home win for me.

I suggest you do the same.

PS – No orange today I am afraid… BlackBerry can’t handle such technicalities!

Net Zero

Posted by: | Comments (4)

Evening all.

One of those amusing late season games tonight where it doesn’t really matter who wins for BOTW.

I backed Everton to be “The best of the rest” back in August at 5/2, and a win tonight would see them move within a point of Bolton who currently hold that key 7th place.  The Trotters really have beaten even my expectations.

Every point Owen Coyle’s men rack up from now until may are all pure profit for BOTW havnig gone long on their total of 41 at 1pt per point.   That could be a 10 point hike in itself.

However, we are also exposed to Everton’s opponents tonight at Goodison Birmingham’s total points – so a sneaky away point or three won’t do too much harm.

It’s a bit too early to consider any hedging positions at the moment, so this is just a case of sitting back and enjoying the game I guess.

Or you could watch Spurs vs AC Milan.  Hmmmm….

.
