that was a cracking shout – he’s into 1/4 now.

  2. Not Nixon says:

Loving these world cup specials markets. Just going through them and several jump out as being greats bets.

In particular goalscoring match bets. Is Defoe going to get a lot of playing time at the WC? I personally cant see him getting more than a cameo role if that. So if there is a bookmaker out there (and there is) matching Defoe up against a very likely starter, in a team that should stroll throught the group stage, then its another chance to wrestle some cash of the pantomine villian that is the high street bookmaker.

  3. Karl says:

Well we could of done with Hesky scoring rather than missing an absoulete sitter

  4. Blez says:

Fear not, Heskey is fine and dandy. But we may need those points to offset a loss if Cole’s performance encourages Capello to take him and Adam Johnson…

At the expense of a centre back.

But for me that is a big gamble on his part given the fitness of Rio and King…

  5. Blez says:

NN – Away on holiday at the moment, will have a scour of the special markets on Tuesday…

Fire me an email @ blez@betoftheweek.net if you see anything great I should have a look at.

    Cheers

  6. ben says:

thats evens i got on UPSON im starting to panic about. I think he sees CARRAGHER as his 3rd choice centre back should he be required. DAWSON certainly isnt going but i think he has the centre back position covered with CARRAGHER and KING at the expense of UPSON.

  7. Karl says:

I agree, I think the Upson bet is now a loser, he will see Carragher as cover now, I am off to try and lay it off, just read a report that Joe Cole sealed a place on the plane with his performance.

The fact Upsom did not play as well spoke volumes

  8. Karl says:

no where to lay it off :( Cole is now a stupid low price, and Upsom is 2.88 not to go to lay.

Everything I am reading today says King and Carragher. we are just going to have to hope he realises he is taking a big risk on Ferdinand and Kings Fitness, but as I said every pundit is now saying Cole is a def for squad

  9. ben says:

I covered by UPSON bet with a lump on HESKEY this morning at 1.3. That has all dried up now.
Im still of the opinion that he will take 8 defenders. KING as we all know is a major injury risk. FERDINAND only just back from injury and TERRY took a knock against JAPAN. although CARRAGHER is cover its not unreasonable for england to pick up 2 or more injuries to defenders. He is a big fan of UPSON and the fact that he hasnt played these two friendlies is irrelevant as he was giving FERDINAND and TERRY some game time. UPSON to be fair is proven playing most of the qualfying games.

  10. Cockers says:

2/1 best price on Ronaldo being Portugal’s top goal scorer. will have some of that.

    • Blez says:

Cockers – I’ll have a look at that later today and let everyone know my thoughts…

Looks like all the flirting is over and we should get down to action very very soon…

      How we all feeling?!

  11. Not Nixon says:

upson and heskey home and dry for all you that got on.

    • Blez says:

Well well. Hope everyone enjoyed that one, and that the doubters didn’t lose too much sleep or sweat.

I will be back tomorrow with a debrief and also something new I hope.

      BOTW wins again as ever.

  12. Dayno says:

congratulations for those that backed them..

paddy power are offering am interesting market on arsenal’s top scorer for the tournament. RVP at 6/5 looks pretty decent value to me.

    any thoughts?

  13. Himalayas says:

    Another nice win, cheers Blez.

Look forward to the next stuff. Any idea on top scorer?

Just sent a couple of beers your way.

    Top stuff.

  14. Karl says:

Well done mate, sorry to of been the doubter

  15. Karl says:

I noticed that our Roger Federe bet failed today :( did not see that coming

  16. Blez says:

Yes, a 5pt loss on that one. Given the main basis for the selection was the deteriorating health of Rafa’s knees (which seem fine on current evidence) I had almost chalked that up already, although did not expect it to come today.

Maybe babies and nappies at 4am impact your game… Who would of thought it?

10pt days are always enjoyable though, especially when they are as easy as this one was.

  17. ben says:

    Blez
Just wanted to throw an England betting thought at you.

England 4.1 to be eliminated in second round of world cup.
At 1.07 to make the second round then as long as the England price is greater than about 1.37 ish to qualify for the quarters once in the second round then there is a trade opportunity.

You may need to read the above a few times to get your head round it but with possible second round opponents being serbia i would suggest the england qualify price would be more like 1.55.

    Any thoughts?

  18. Karl says:

“Maybe babies and nappies at 4am impact your game… Who would of thought it?”

with you there Brother, my 2 year old has now decided that sleep is for wimps, keeps waking up at 4am every day :(

  19. Dayno says:

Cockers..whilst i like the idea of Ronaldo as Portugal’s top scorer my main reservation is that he didn’t score a single goal in qualifying. Whilst being the most expensive player in the World and shit hot at club level he’s never fired quite the same for Portugal. I struggle to understand how he didn’t score, especially considering he takes free kicks and penalties.

Anyhow, perhaps it is this stat that makes him such a good price. His main rival Lodeiro (3 goals from 7 in qualifying) is a 31 yr old Brazilian who may be a bit overwhelmed in a group including the country of his birth.

I’d be interested to hear what other people think?

Also what does everyone think on RVP to be Arsenal’s top World Cup scorer. Post Walcott it’s now 4/5 but I think it represents decent value. Looking at his rivals:

Fabregas (7/2) is likely to spend the summer shining xavi and iniesta’s boots (Barcelona will be looking at his proficiency in this department with great interest)

Bentdner (7/2) is the biggest danger in my opinion but I see Denmark coming runners up to Holland in the group and promptly being dumped out by Italy in the Second Round

Vela (15/2) is a decent long shot but I don’t see Mexico making it past France and Uraguay in the group

    Any other thoughts?
