Men against Bhoys…
Posted by: | CommentsHope some of you managed to take advantage of the Man City bet at the weekend. A satisfying win to start the season. They won’t all be winners, that is the nature of the beast, so it is nice to get the new season underway with a 150% ROI win.
Moving onto this evenings action. I have plumped for Arsenal to build on their t’umpin of Everton by winning at Parkhead tonight. Generally available at even money, this can be stretched to 11/10 on Betfair. This is caveated by the fact that I only plan on backing this once Cesc Fabregas is passed fit to play as anticipated!
Arsenal looked as impressive on Saturday as Everton looked woeful. I anticipate Moyes will be shifting Joleon “I’m not in the right frame of mind boss” Lescott out of there sharpish with Richard Dunne coming the other way along with a few million barrels of oil. Go and find a price on that for your lunch money!
I can’t see Celtic keeping pace with a free flowing Arsenal team, and do not feel they pose a great goal threat themselves. As a result, I expect Arsene’s boys (no pun intended, honest) to be far too strong.
Some people won’t like this bet, I am aware of that. And the nature of even money bets is that they may well not win. If this turns out to be the case those same people will be straight on the bandwagon referring to how Celtic have only lost once to an English side at Parkhead (and that was in 1983!) and about how much Man United struggled up there in recent years as post event reasons why they wouldn’t have backed Arsenal with someone else’s cash.
Well for the record, at no point did Man United go up to Parkhead really needing a result. If SAF and his boys turned up needing to win over 2 legs to make the Champions League proper I would rather put my cash on Ulrika Johnson being a virgin than I would on a repeat of Celtic’s 1-0 victory a couple of years ago.
People will also point to Arsenal’s inconsistent European form and the infamous Parkhead “atmosphere” i.e. lots of angry Scotsmen and the odd pitch invader high on glue.
Well I shall drill them straight back down the ground for 4 runs in a very controlled manor with the following:
- Fenerbahce 2 – 5 Arsenal
- AC Milan 0 – 2 Arsenal
Turks are scarier than Scotsmen. Fact. And the only places in Scotland even comparable to a Turkish football stadium in the “shit your pants scary” stakes are sexual health clinics and any off licence stupid enough to run out of premium strength cider. Coincidentaly, the latter has not happened since the evening Celtic lost at home to Nottingham Forest in 1983… Spooky.
And maybe Milan fans aren’t quite ultras. But it’s still a damn intimidating place, especially when you are up against Paulo “A Million Dollars” Maldini and some fellow called Kaka as opposed to Scott McDonald and Bobo Balde. Calm down, I know he was released. Just wanted to say his comedy name.
This pick is far from a favourite of mine, however I have decided to plough ahead with it anyway as I am on a bit of a roll at the moment… even my “entertainment bets” where I have no intention of expecting to turn a profit are coming in at the moment…
Assist on that one for my girlfriend who I always let have a bet for fun when watching games who insisted “Rooney is definitely going to score today, 100%”. When I discovered the the good people of Betfair fancied 2-0, 3-0 and 3-1 more than 1-0, I decided 37/1 was too good a price to turn down!
Adios amigos…
BOTW: 2pts on Arsenal to win at Celtic @ 11/10
Back Sparky to get it right away from home…
Posted by: | CommentsApologies this one is a bit late in the day, but I have decided to back the unknown force that is Man City away from home today.
I know, maybe I am still drunk. Normally not backing teams such as Man City is one of my golden rules, however my gut feeling is that this new Man City will be a different animal.
People are going on about “gelling” and all this b*llshit. For me, if you have £100 million up front (Adebayor, Tevaz and Robinho) plus a host of internationals all over the park, bench and back at Eastlands for that matter, you can deal with a weak Blackburn team even away from home.
This one is a bit of a gamble. However, I don’t think you would be getting 6/4 if this game was being played in April.
Fact.
Good luck…
BOTW: 2pts on Man City to win at Blackburn @ 6/4
Back the robot @ 11/10 to have a solid season…
Posted by: | CommentsBack again with another long term value bet….
Posted by: | CommentsFirst update for a while due to other commitments unfortunately.
You’ll all be glad to know I have been on a bit of a hot streak with my game by game baseball betting. Shame you don’t get to benefit from that!
Hopefully you got involved with the Phillies before it was too late… They have since acquired Cliff Lee, the reigning AL Cy Young holder and one the top 10 starting pitchers in the game, and are now as short as 1/8 to win the NL East.
Not bad compared to the 10/11 you hopefully got them at only weeks ago.
Anyway, the real reason I am here. I am back with a new BOTW.
The new Premier League season is due to start in two weeks time and it will no doubt prove to be as exciting as ever. Hopefully it can be a profitable one!
Yet again this choice involves an area of my expertise… Man United!
Skybet have placed the anticipated spread on Antonio Valencia’s total Premier League goals at 4.5. I highly recommend going long on this one at 5/6.
With United being considerably short on fire power (No Mickey Owen pun intended), AV will play a much larger part in SAF’s plans than Skybet seem to be anticipating.
Although AV scored relatively infrequently in his time as Wigan, playing for United avec Rooney, Berbatov et al is a whole different ball game and I anticipate that AV with score nearer 10 league goals than 5 this season.
Get well stuck into the above 4.5 now and look forward to seeing a healthy 83% return somewhere around Christmas.
Until next time.
